Short answer
Both are Kenyan domains run by KeNIC. .co.ke is the long-established address for companies and businesses, while .ke is the shorter national domain (yourbrand.ke) open to anyone. Many businesses register both so customers find them either way.
| .co.ke | .ke | |
|---|---|---|
| Example | yourbrand.co.ke | yourbrand.ke |
| Best for | Businesses and companies | Short brand names, campaigns, personal brands |
| Who can register | Anyone | Anyone |
| First year at Hostnali | Ksh 1,300 | Ksh 3,500 |
| Renewal | Ksh 1,300 | Ksh 4,000 |
When to choose .co.ke
Kenyan customers have seen .co.ke on business websites for years, so it reads straight away as “a company in Kenya”. It’s the safe choice for most businesses, schools that aren’t eligible for .sc.ke, and service providers.
When to choose .ke
A .ke address is shorter and easier to say, and good names are often still free under .ke when the .co.ke is taken. It suits brands, apps, campaigns and personal websites.
Other Kenyan extensions
KeNIC also runs extensions for specific groups: .or.ke for NGOs and associations, .ac.ke for colleges and universities, .sc.ke for schools, .me.ke for personal sites, and .ne.ke, .info.ke and .mobi.ke. We sell all of them except .go.ke, which is for government.
Our advice: register the .co.ke of your name, add the .ke if it’s free, and point both to the same website. See prices on the .co.ke and .ke pages.
